The Batavus Senz Active Exclusive has been named Bicycle of the Year 2025 at the RAI Fiets Awards 2025. From the jury report: 'The Batavus Senz Active Exclusive is an ode to the Dutch city bike. The bar is therefore set high, and you will not be disappointed. Lighting is up to par with smart height limitation, and the aluminum frame features a slim and sleek design resulting in a chic appearance.'

Batavus Dinsdag Exclusive Plus - Bike of the Year 2021

The Fiets Awards Expert Jury
All 60 entries were extensively tested in real-world conditions during three test days and evaluated by an independent expert jury. From the entries, 15 bicycles were nominated in 5 categories. To evaluate the entries for the Fiets Award, the independent expert jury focuses on various aspects such as safety, handling/comfort, innovation, materials used, design/styling, and price/quality ratio. The Fiets Awards expert jury consists of experts from the editorial teams of Fiets, Fiets Actief, ANWB Media, Tweewieler, NieuwsFiets.nu, Bike Europe, and experienced professionals.Epco Vlugt, Regional Director of Accell Benelux: “We are proud that this modern and sporty all-rounder from Batavus has been declared the winner by the expert jury. Once again, this is a crowning achievement of our craftsmanship and a reward for everyone who contributed to the creation of this sporty city bike, which has been developed down to the last detail for comfortable and safe cycling in the city.”
Bicycle of the Year 2020
We are proud of our winning Batavus Finez! This city bike excels in comfort and safety. A bike that can take a beating and braves wind and weather. The new Finez was created through close collaboration with Delft University of Technology. Here, the stability of the frame was examined for an optimal riding position and extra comfort while cycling. For extra visibility and safety, the Batavus Finez is equipped with Vizi lighting. Thanks to the standing light function, the lights stay on for a moment if you have to wait at a traffic light, for example. Much safer.
The expert jury of the Bicycle of the Year Awards
For the assessment of the entries, the expert jury focuses on various aspects, including innovation, riding behavior/comfort, safety, materials used, styling, and price/quality ratio. The independent expert jury of the Bicycle Awards consists of experts from the editorial teams of Tweewieler, NieuwsFiets.nu, Fiets and ANWB Media, the RAI association, experts by experience, and a designer.
Sten van der Ham, Regional Director of Accell Benelux, of which Batavus is a part: “It is an honor that our Batavus Finez has been named Bicycle of the Year 2020. A reward for this beautiful all-round city bike, in which comfort and safety for the user played a major role in the development of the bicycle. In collaboration with Delft University of Technology, we looked at the frame for an optimal riding position, and we developed the special Vizi lighting for better visibility of the cyclist in traffic.”
Thanks to its super stable frame and perfect handling characteristics for all-round use, the Finez is ready for any kind of ride! Due to the front suspension and suspension seatpost, rough city roads are no problem at all. The unique Vizi lighting ensures you are always visible in traffic. That makes things much safer. The Vizi lighting is the new dynamic daytime running light. The headlight is positioned slightly further back on the fender so that it is less likely to be damaged when parking. The taillight is beautifully integrated into the luggage rack. Because the lighting is powered by the hub dynamo, it is always on, and with the parking light function, it stays lit even when you are waiting at a traffic light. That makes things much safer.

Batavus Quip: Bicycle of the Year 2016
The jury praises the riding characteristics of the Batavus Quip. The Quip has a pleasant and accessible cycling character. In addition to functionality, Batavus has once again made a statement with this striking design for the urban segment. The city bike has a competitive price point and the use of materials is commendable.

Batavus Quip: robust bicycle with a distinctive design
Last year, the Quip was already recognized as Good Industrial Design and was also awarded the GIO Special Award for Excellence in the Originality category. With this, Batavus was once again the only bicycle brand to be awarded one of the five Special Awards presented annually to the most distinctive entries.
The Batavus Quip is a striking model with a split seat tube, high rims, and a front carrier. This is extra narrow so that the Quip fits in a crowded bike rack. If a cyclist needs to transport a lot, it is also possible to widen the carrier. The bicycle is available in matte black, matte ochre, and matte purple. The extensive commentary from the RAI Association on the Batavus Quip, Bicycle of the Year 2016: "The Batavus Quip is a trendy bicycle suitable for daily cycling. Not only has functionality been considered, but special attention has also been paid to the design. The high rims in trendy colors are eye-catching. The frame is equipped with a unique anti-theft number. The seat tube is interrupted, giving the bike a rugged appearance. A special feature is the practical front carrier, which is extra narrow. This makes it easier to place the Quip in a bicycle rack. An additional advantage is that the carrier can easily be widened, which allows for the mounting of baskets and crates."
Batavus Zonar: Bicycle of the Year 2015
The Batavus Zonar has been named Bicycle of the Year 2015. This was announced during the National (E)Bike Test Days at Expo Haarlemmermeer. It is the second prize for this bicycle, which was also recently recognized as Good Industrial Design (GIO) 2014.
The Batavus Zonar: a sporty lightweight
The Batavus Zonar is a fast and robust lightweight bicycle with a sleek frame, sporty geometry, a straight front fork, and high rims, suitable for both daily use and recreational rides. It is a derailleur bike weighing 15 kilograms. The reason this bike is so light is due to a number of weight-saving components: the double-butted frame, extra-light rims, and the lightweight handlebar and seat post. The straight front fork and extra-high rims give the Zonar its fast appearance. Unique is the optically floating rear carrier, where one of the tubes is finished in a striking contrasting color. The Zonar is available in two different versions and two beautiful colors: for women matte black or matte blue, and for men matte black or matte red.
Jury Report
The basis for the assessment is suitability for the user group. The expert jury evaluates the bicycles based on their own specific performance in relation to the purpose for which the bicycle in question was designed. In the jury report, the expert jury justified its choice of the Batavus Zonar as Bicycle of the Year 2015. The jury rated “particularly the combination of sportiness, ease of use, and riding characteristics as very good. The bicycle is lightweight and very complete for the price at which Batavus offers it. Everything about this bike is right. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”
