Can I mount a child seat on my (electric) bicycle?
Can I mount a child seat on my (electric) bicycle?
Many (electric) bicycles are suitable for a child seat, but Batavus recommends mounting a seat on the frame or stem. For safety reasons, mounting on an aluminum rack or handlebars is not recommended.
To make the right choice for safely transporting your child on your bicycle, we recommend visiting a bicycle shop near you. Batavus is an expert in bicycles, but child seats are not part of our product range. Choosing a suitable child seat can be made easier based on the bicycle, the maximum permitted weight, and any other requirements. With the bike on-site, the bike mechanic can give you specific advice and perhaps even install the selected seat correctly right away.

What maintenance services are included with my bicycle?
Maintenance services are not linked to the bicycle itself but are part of the service offered by Batavus bike shops. For more information, it’s best to contact your Batavus bike shop; they can tell you exactly which maintenance services are available.
How do I maintain my Batavus bicycle?
How do I maintain my Batavus bicycle?
For your own safety, it’s important to regularly check the following points:
- Bolts and nuts — Make sure all bolts and nuts are properly tightened, especially the quick‑release levers on the wheels.
- Handlebar and stem — Check for any signs of damage.
- Brakes — Ensure the brakes still function properly; at normal speed you should be able to stop within a few meters.
- Tire pressure — Check the tire pressure. You’ll find information about the maximum air pressure on the sidewall of the tire.
- Tread depth — Make sure the tread is still sufficient. If your tires look worn, ask your Batavus bike shop to inspect them.
- Lights and signals — Check whether everything works properly and whether you are clearly visible. Clean your lights regularly with a dry cloth.
- Handlebar grips — Ensure they are firmly attached and not worn out.
- Rear suspension (if applicable) — Check all bolts on the suspension components and make sure they are tight. Also check whether the bearings have any play.
If you find it difficult to check these points yourself, Batavus recommends having your bike inspected regularly — at least once a year — at your Batavus bike shop.
You can also consult your bicycle’s manual or our website for additional tips and advice.

For the Batavus Altura, the frame number is located elsewhere. You can find it on a sticker with a QR code, placed on the frame near the bottom of the rear fender. The frame number is printed in text below the QR code. These Batavus frame numbers start with AH, followed by a 7‑digit combination.
My bicycle has been stolen, what now?
My bicycle has been stolen, what now?
Batavus recommends reporting the theft to the police. You will need your frame number for this, which you can find in the documents you received with your bicycle. If you registered your bicycle with Batavus, you will have received all your bicycle details — including the frame number — digitally.
The frame number and bicycle details are registered with the RDW (Netherlands Vehicle Authority). The police can link your bicycle information to your personal data, after which the RDW will mark your bicycle as stolen. This status will appear on the RDW website, where you can also check whether a bicycle has already been registered as stolen.

Electric bicycles
Can I keep cycling if my electric bike's battery is empty?
Can I keep cycling if my electric bike's battery is empty?
Yes — you can keep cycling even when the battery is empty. The motor simply stops providing assistance, so you’ll need to put in a bit more effort yourself. Luckily, this doesn’t harm your e-bike. How heavy the pedaling feels depends on the type of motor. A front‑wheel motor has a freewheel, which allows you to ride very smoothly even without support.
Can a child seat be mounted on a Batavus electric bike?
Can a child seat be mounted on a Batavus electric bike?
Batavus recommends attaching a child seat to the frame or stem, as this is the safest and most stable option. Mounting a seat on an aluminum carrier is not advised. For tailored guidance or correct installation, please reach out to your local Batavus bike shop.
What is the range and how can I increase it?
What is the range and how can I increase it?
The range of your e-bike depends partly on the battery capacity. On the website, you’ll find an estimated range listed for each model, giving you a clear idea of how far you can ride on a full charge.
When does an electric bicycle need to becalibrated (adjusted motor) and how does it work?
When does an electric bicycle need to becalibrated (adjusted motor) and how does it work?
An electric bicycle only needs calibration if it uses ION technology with a rear‑wheel motor. Calibration is required when the rear wheel has been removed — for example, during a tire replacement. It can also help resolve malfunctions or reduced support. This service is usually performed by a Batavus dealer, but you can also do it yourself. The instruction manual explains the procedure and recommends calibrating the bike once a month.
Is additional maintenance required for the winter?
Is additional maintenance required for the winter?
Charging the battery at room temperature is recommended. It will charge more quickly, and the higher starting temperature helps increase your riding range. In colder weather, the display may respond more slowly. When storing the battery, always follow the temperature limits and safety guidelines described in the instruction manual.

How long will my battery last?
How long will my battery last?
Like any battery, the batteries in our electric bikes experience natural wear over time. A common characteristic is that capacity gradually decreases with use and age. Because this process varies per rider and usage pattern, an exact lifespan can’t be specified. You can read more about optimal battery use and care on our website.
What about the fire safety of my e-batteries?
What about the fire safety of my e-batteries?
Our batteries are tested according to strict European safety standards. Even with these high requirements, there remains a very small chance of a battery malfunction that could lead to a fire — most often due to improper use. You can read more about battery fire safety and best practices on our website.
Will my lights stay on when the battery is empty?

What's the best way to charge my electric bike?
What's the best way to charge my electric bike?
Batteries are interchangeable on bikes with Bosch, E‑motion, and Shimano technology. For safety reasons, the batteries on ION electric bikes cannot be swapped between bikes. An additional battery can be registered to an ION e‑bike through your Batavus dealer, but registering one battery for use on multiple bikes is not possible.
Display of an electric bicycle
I see a frost symbol on my electric bike's display. What should I do?
I see a frost symbol on my electric bike's display. What should I do?
The frost symbol appears when the temperature drops below 4°C. All batteries are sensitive to cold, due to the chemical processes inside them. At temperatures below 10°C, you may notice longer charging times, reduced power, and a shorter range. Unlike natural battery aging, this temperature effect is temporary — once the ambient temperature rises, the battery’s performance will return to its previous level.
I have moisture on my display. What's going on?
I have moisture on my display. What's going on?
Condensation can appear on the display when humidity is very high and the bike is exposed to a rapid temperature change — for example, moving from a cold environment into sunlight. The display is splash‑proof but not airtight, and despite careful waterproofing, these natural physical effects can’t be fully prevented. The condensation will disappear on its own once the weather improves and humidity drops.
