Warranty terms & conditions
The warranty on your Batavus
Warranty conditions
This document sets out the warranty conditions of Batavus for you. We refer to these as “the warranty conditions”. The guarantor, Batavus, is part of Accell Global B.V. and is officially located at Oval Tower, De Entree 99-197, 1101HE Amsterdam. Our Chamber of Commerce number is 69722536 and our VAT number is NL85798408B01.
As the owner of a Batavus bicycle or bicycle part, you are entitled to a statutory warranty (non-conformity). You can enforce this right against the seller, the official Batavus dealer. Statutory warranty means that a product is or must do what you can reasonably expect it to do.
In addition, Batavus, as the manufacturer, also provides its own warranty on its bicycles. We refer to this additional warranty as the “manufacturer's warranty”. You can also contact the official Batavus dealer for this. This manufacturer's warranty does not affect the statutory warranty. This additional Batavus manufacturer's warranty commences on the day your bicycle is delivered according to the purchase invoice. If you wish to claim under the manufacturer's warranty, you must register your bicycle at www.batavus.nl/service-en-garantie/mijn-fiets within 4 weeks of purchase.
1.0 Batavus manufacturer's warranty conditions
With regard to new Batavus bicycles and bicycle parts, you are entitled to our manufacturer's warranty within the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland and the United Kingdom (UK) in accordance with the warranty conditions below.
The manufacturer's warranty means that Batavus guarantees that the Batavus bicycles and bicycle parts it markets are free from construction, material and/or paint defects for a certain period of time. Your manufacturer's warranty commences on the day your bicycle is sold and delivered to you according to the purchase invoice. The period during which the manufacturer's warranty applies varies per part:
- Frame - 10 years
- Fixed front fork - 10 years
- Suspension front fork - 2 years
- Frame and fork paintwork - 2 years
- Other paintwork and chrome parts - 2 years
- All other parts - 2 years
Electrical parts that are part of Batavus bicycles, such as the battery packs of Batavus electric bicycles, come with a 2-year warranty. During that period, the battery's capacity will naturally decrease. How quickly the capacity decreases depends on the use and age of the battery. The manufacturer's warranty only covers unusual decreases in battery power. At the end of the battery's service life, it must be returned to your Batavus dealer, who will ensure that it is recycled.
2.0 Parts warranty
If you experience problems with your Batavus bicycle or one of its parts during the warranty period, as described in section 1.0, you can have Batavus (via the official Batavus dealer) determine whether there is a material, paint and/or construction defect. If this is the case, Batavus will determine, in consultation with the dealer, whether the part will be repaired, replaced or reimbursed. For a part that is replaced during the warranty period, the remaining warranty period on the relevant part of your bicycle will continue to apply; a new warranty period will not commence.
A part may be repaired or replaced with a new part, at Batavus' discretion. Batavus cannot guarantee that frame types or colours will remain available. If the original part is no longer available, Batavus may supply an equivalent alternative part. You may also be charged for transport costs to and from Batavus.
If the frame of your Batavus needs to be replaced under warranty, the original frame may no longer be available. You will then receive a replacement frame, which may no longer be suitable for other accessories or parts that have been fitted to the frame. In that case, the Batavus dealer may fit other accessories or parts with a similar function that do fit the new frame and charge you for them. However, they will only do so after obtaining your prior consent. If Batavus does not have a frame available at all, we can offer a commercial solution to be determined at a later date.
3.0 Warranty exclusions
You are not entitled to warranty in the following cases:
- The bicycle was delivered in new condition (to you or the previous owner) by someone who is not an official Batavus dealer.
- Your bicycle has not been regularly serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
- Your handlebars, saddle, seat post, derailleur set, brakes, quick release of the derailleur set, brakes, quick release of the wheels or tyres have been incorrectly adjusted or tensioned without the official Batavus dealer being at fault.
- Parts such as the brake and derailleur cables, brake pads, tyres, chain and sprockets have not been replaced on time.
- Normal wear and tear on parts such as tyres, chain, chainrings, rear sprockets, lights, cables and brake pads, without any construction or material defects.
- Batavus is unable to determine how the defect or damage occurred due to work carried out on the bicycle by an unqualified repairer.
- Incorrect (technical) repairs have been carried out on your bicycle by an unqualified repairer.
- After delivery of your Batavus, other accessories or parts have been incorrectly fitted, or the original parts no longer correspond to the original technical specifications due to external manipulation. For example, if the motor has been tuned.
- Your bicycle has been used incorrectly or carelessly, or damage has been caused by a traffic accident or fall, or other external causes.
- Your Batavus has been used as a rental bicycle or in competitions and/or commercial activities that involve exceptional use of the bicycle.
- The damage was caused by transport on a bicycle carrier or other means of transport.
- Normal weathering of the paintwork due to weather influences or rust formation in the case of paint damage.
- You did not register the bicycle on https://my.batavus.com/s/register-bike-public within 4 weeks of purchase and you cannot show an official purchase receipt from an official Batavus dealer.
- The maximum weight that (part of) the bicycle can carry has been exceeded. For a city/touring bicycle, the maximum permitted weight is 120 kg. An electric bicycle can carry a maximum weight of 130 kg. For the Batavus Mambo, an increased maximum permitted weight of 150 kg applies.
- The battery has become deeply discharged because you have not charged it for too long or have not charged it often enough.
- The electric bicycle has been modified. Modification means that the electric bicycle's auxiliary motor has been altered, giving the bicycle more power than is legally permitted, or that the pedal assistance does not stop when the bicycle reaches a speed of more than 25 km/h, or earlier, when the rider stops pedalling.
It goes without saying that Batavus only provides a warranty on bicycles manufactured by Batavus and the original parts that form part of them. If you choose to replace original parts with imitation parts, for example the battery, you should bear in mind that the Batavus manufacturer's warranty does not cover such parts, and that if such parts have a negative impact on original parts fitted to your bicycle, you will no longer be able to claim under the Batavus manufacturer's warranty on such original parts.

4.0 Making a warranty claim
In the event of a fault or defect in your Batavus bicycle or any part thereof, you must always have it inspected and repaired by an official Batavus dealer if you wish to claim under the warranty. Please also bring the original purchase receipt with you.
Only an official Batavus dealer can submit the warranty claim to Batavus with the purchase receipt. The official Batavus dealer is also the first point of contact. An official Batavus dealer is trained in repairing and maintaining our products and has all the necessary tools, parts and software. The dealer is also familiar with the guidelines for handling warranty claims.
As soon as a defect is detected, you must stop using your Batavus bicycle and prevent the damage from getting worse. Batavus is not liable for damage caused or aggravated by your own actions.
Have you moved or is your own Batavus dealer no longer available? Then you can contact us to find a Batavus dealer in your area.
5.0 Batavus liability
The liability of Batavus and the Batavus dealer in relation to defective bicycles or bicycle parts is in principle limited to what arises from these warranty conditions, unless and insofar as this limitation of liability is contrary to a mandatory legal provision (the aforementioned statutory warranty).
If application of the warranty conditions according to Batavus leads to an undesirable situation, we may offer you an alternative solution. This does not mean that other consumers in similar cases are also entitled to that alternative.
6.0 Changes to warranty conditions
Batavus may change these warranty conditions from time to time. You can find the most current conditions of the Batavus warranty at Batavus Warranty page.
