Maintenance of your Batavus bicycle
Proper maintenance of your bike is half the battle. Regular maintenance simply extends the life of your bike. Tips and guidelines on the best, safest use and adjustments for your bike can be found in your bike's manual.
To enjoy your Batavus bicycle for as long as possible, it is important to have your bicycle properly adjusted, checked (and adjusted if necessary) during a service and cleaned thoroughly.
Make an appointment with your Batavus bike shop for the first check-up and adjustment . It's best to do this after you've run in your new bike for a few hundred kilometers. Many parts need time to settle.
We recommend having your bicycle serviced annually . Your Batavus dealer has the knowledge and tools to adjust and lubricate every component (even hidden ones). This includes rotating parts like the headset, freewheel, and gear hub. The dealer will immediately identify minor imperfections and resolve them for you. They can also provide a professional assessment of the condition of things like tires, sprockets, spoke tension, and the chain. The best time for an annual service is before the start of winter or, for example, before going on a cycling holiday. Never let your bicycle go into hibernation in an unmaintained state.

What can you do yourself to maintain and winterize your bicycle?
- Grease chrome and aluminum parts with acid-free Vaseline.
- Clean your chain thoroughly regularly and lightly grease it afterwards.
- Make sure your tires are properly inflated.
It's also best to have major maintenance or repairs carried out by your Batavus dealer. You can easily do minor repairs yourself. You can get a long way with a set of wrenches, socket wrenches (8 to 16), Allen keys, a screwdriver, combination pliers, a chain tool, a bottle of bicycle oil, and a tire repair kit.
For more information, consult the manual for your bike. This also applies to e-bike-specific information, such as how to use and charge your battery.
